The degree programme in Languages and Technologies for Intercultural Communication (LinTeC) trains language mediators for intercultural communication, inclusion and business and aims to provide adequate linguistic and cultural knowledge as well as skills in dialogical interpreting, semi-specialised translation and basic technologies applied to the field of language.
More specifically, graduates in Languages and Technologies for Intercultural Communication (LinTeC) will acquire the following competences and skills:
- communicative, interlinguistic and intercultural skills in Italian and at least two foreign languages;
- methodological and technological skills in written (semi-specialised translation) and oral (dialogical interpretation) language mediation;
- in-depth knowledge of Italian and metalinguistic skills applicable to a wide range of linguistic texts and phenomena;
- socio-cultural and literary knowledge.
They will also be able to enrich their training by acquiring:
- knowledge in the fields of economics, law, history, gender studies, and the language of accessibility;
- knowledge of a third language and culture;
- a basic knowledge of Italian sign language;
- the ability to use technological tools for the management of linguistic data to support language learning, semi-specialised translation and dialogical interpretation;
- the ability to operate with organisational autonomy, to work in a team and to take care of continuous learning in order to fit in to a working environment.
The programme is divided into three curricula and comprises a common two-year period and a third year characterised by learning activities that allow for the consolidation and furthering of competences regarding:
- translation and dialogical interpreting through advanced methods and techniques, as well as basic technologies applicable to semi-specialist translation and dialogical interpreting;
- sectorial languages applied to communication in business and institutional settings;
- communication in a socio-cultural perspective with regard to both gender issues and accessible communication.
Specific competences concern the following learning areas:
Language and culture
Learning activities in Italian and in at least two foreign languages dedicated to the development of:
- knowledge, competences, skills and linguistic-communicative abilities functional to the activities of written and oral language mediation;
- historical-cultural, economic-legal, literary, socio-anthropological and equality, diversity and inclusion knowledge, to complete the multidisciplinary preparation of the linguistic and intercultural mediator;
- competences concerning gender studies and accessible communication;
- theoretical-methodological knowledge and competences as well as learning abilities and autonomous judgement.
Translation
Learning activities dedicated to the development of communicative, interlinguistic, intercultural and methodological competences to be applied to written language mediation (semi-specialised translation).
Dialogic interperation
Learning activities dedicated to the development of communicative, interlinguistic, intercultural and methodological competences to be applied to oral language mediation (dialogic interpretation).
Technology
Learning activities dedicated to the development of technological competences for language learning, supporting semi-specialised translation, dialogic interpretation and accessible communication.
In addition to the learning areas distributed across the curricula, there are also:
- elective course units that allow the construction of a flexible individual study plan in line with the student's personal interests.
- internship activities in Italian or foreign companies, institutions or universities, in order to apply and experiment, within a real working environment, the knowledge, competences, skills and abilities acquired.
