Eligibility is determined according to the aforementioned criteria where it is possible to convert the degree score to the Italian system, and where the scientific-disciplinary fields and number of credits obtained by the student are easily classifiable according to the above scheme. If conversion and/or identification are not possible, the students' career will be assessed by the Degree Programme Board on a case-by-case basis.
Admission to students who do not possess the aforementioned requirements is subject to the eligibility assessment by the Degree Programme Board based on the students' academic career (obtained credits, scores, final degree scores).

For students holding a university degree obtained abroad and deemed appropriate by the Degree Programme Board, for which the conversion of the degree score to the Italian system is possible, the adopted criteria are those which apply to graduates in Italy; otherwise the students' academic career will be assessed by the Degree Programme Board.
A special Admissions session may be held for international students, with a Board appointed to assess the candidates' personal competencies and skills; this session will be compatible with the schedule established in the call for applications for study grants (which expires around the month of May every year).
International students passing the above-mentioned assessment are exempted from the assessment of their personal competencies and skills which are required for other students.
The Degree Programme Board may exonerate candidates from the assessment of personal competencies and skills in the event of:
withdrawal
loss of student status
application to opt out of previous degree programme systems
holding an academic qualification obtained from, or learning activities carried out in, foreign universities,
transfer from another degree programme at the Alma Mater Studiorum – University of Bologna
transfer from another university
The assessment in this case is based on the analysis of the candidate's previous academic career.
