Laurea Magistrale (Second cycle degree/Two year Master - 120 ECTS) in Teaching and Communication of Natural Sciences

In the first year, all the students will attend courses of Biology, Chemistry and Geology in order to learn the fundamental aspects of the disciplines and how to teach them as well. Indeed the first year of the programme also offers an introduction to Psychology, Pedagogy, Anthropology and the History of Science.
This basic knowledge of teaching and learning mechanisms and processes, will allow the students also to apply better in the second year one of the four curricula building a career in training, education and communication in the field of natural sciences. In all the curricula face-to-face lessons, laboratories (indoor and outdoor) and field experiences will be provided.
The four curricula are aimed respectively at providing to the students the methodological tools and skills to:
1) design a curriculum in the area of natural sciences with a transdisciplinary approach;
2) understand the historical and scientific value of scientific museum collections, their composition and state of conservation, the problems related to their management and share the future challenges;
3) integrate the knowledge gained from the sciences and humanities disciplines in order to find the better strategies to organize indoor and outdoor teaching activities in the field of sustainability;
4) apply the better tools to learn to communicate and disseminate the natural science as public engagement.
To complete the programme, the students will prepare the thesis unrolling an internship within Alma Mater Studiorum or different institutions (either national or international ones).
Thus, the aim of this master's degree programme is to form graduates owning theoretical and practical skills to be able to work in multidisciplinary contexts in the following fields: scientific and environmental education, management of museums and natural parks, and scientific publishing and communications.
Then, the graduates of this degree programme will have acquired knowledge of:
- Scientific disciplines (Biology, Chemistry and Geology), supplemented by pedagogical knowledge in order to define, design, develop and implement educational curricula for adolescents and young adults;
- History, Psychology and Anthropology supplemented by scientific knowledge to ensure the dissemination and communication of correct scientific information and publishing materials, addressing those issues in relation to the reliability of information sources.
- Ecological disciplines supplemented by pedagogical knowledge in order to design, manage and organize education related to the activities in the natural parks and environmental sustainability.
