Laurea Magistrale (Second cycle degree/Two year Master - 120 ECTS) in Planning and Management of Forest Territory, Landscape and Environment

The Master's degree programme in Planning and Management of Forest Territory, Landscape and Environment aims to produce specialists in the sustainable management of agricultural lands and forests, with reference to economic and production factors, ecology and the environment, planning and landscaping in the light of current policies and regulations. It will thus explore issues like safeguarding agricultural and forest resources so as to ensure respect for environmental, social and economic sustainability, enhancing the landscape as part of rural development and as a tourist amenity, producing and using biomass and other sources for energy purposes, monitoring and protecting the soil and water resources.Under the general objectives of Class LM-73, the programme focuses on managing all aspects of agricultural land and forests, both natural and man-related.The programme consists of a first year in which students deal with topics relating to monitoring agroforestry ecosystems, surveying soils and evaluating limitations to their use, agronomic and environmental analyses of land and management of agricultural, farming and forestry ecosystems, evaluation and management of hydrogeological risk, territorial and environmental economic evaluation (both monetary and non-monetary), and the use of cadastral maps. In the second year, student deals with the topics of forest planning and certification, and energy production from renewable sources.Also in the second year, students can delve in greater depth into topics concerning the evaluation and management of agroforestry areas, with a specific focus on vulnerable and degraded areas and, more generally, on areas of environmental interest. Student will therefore tackle the study of soil chemistry and microbiology, an analysis of the effects of management on water and soil quality, the use of indicators for the assessment of ecosystem services and soil functions, the use of bioremediation techniques and the application of statistical methods for the management and analysis of environmental data.Another area of learning that students will be able to tackle in the second year relates to land, landscape and green design. Students, therefore, will tackle development strategies and the design of the rural territory, in its anthropic and natural components, through the analysis and design of green spaces, parks and gardens, the use of landscape planning tools (also considering the rural landscape in terms of the relationship between buildings and context), development strategies, and the enhancement of territories, through the mobilisation and strategic management of local resources, and in the framework of the environmental, agro-environmental and forestry policies in place in Italy and the EU.Knowledge of the English language at B2 level and the possibility of undertaking a curricular internship at organisations or companies, to be linked where appropriate to the final dissertation, complete the graduate's training.
