Learning outcomes
The course aims to involve the student in projects in which the transformation of existing industrial sites with the aim to combine energy efficiency, reduced environmental impact and economic competitiveness is designed and planned. During the course, the student acquires skills in the management of first and second natural resources, in the use of renewable energy for the production of energy vectors, in energy diagnosis techniques and in the application of the principles of energy economics.
Course contents
Module 1 and 2
The course aims to offer the learner interdisciplinary project activities dealing with energy efficiency and environmental economics in the perspective of a more effective industrial energy transition. At the end of the course the student acquires skills on the concept of integrate energy management in industrial environment with the aim to improve the exploitation of renewable energy sources and the efficiency of industrial processes. The student will learn how to develop a policy for more efficient use of energy, how to fix targets and objectives to meet the energy policy, how to use data to better understand and make decisions about energy use, how to measure the results, how to review the policy works, and how to improve energy management.
Module 3 and 4
Electric energy in industry

The course will be concentrated on the main difficulties that markets, policy makers and industries face in the attempt to speed the transition away from fossil-based economies to carbon free systems. Actual experiences will be discussed from results concerning specific policies or technologies to present new solutions keeping a constant attention to the most promising and impacting innovations and their effects on markets.
