Admission requirements
Admission to the 2nd cycle degree programme is subject to the possession of the prescribed curricular requirements and to the passing of a test to assess the students' personal competencies and skills.
Curricular requirements
To profit by a second-cycle degree programme in Economics and Business one needs to have gained:
- knowledge of business management, economics, law and statistics/maths;
- knowledge of English (to B2 level).
To be admitted to the second-cycle degree programme one also needs to possess the following curricular requirements:
1. A degree in one of the following degree classes, or a recognised compatible foreign qualification:
- ex D.M. 270: degree classes L-18 Economics and Business Management, L-33 Economic Science;
- ex. D.M. 509/99: degree classes 17 Economics and Business Management, 28 Economic Science;
- Previous four-year degree system: degree from an Economics Faculty.
- Three-year university diploma from an Economics Faculty.
- A foreign qualification in economics/business studies recognised as compatible and equivalent to a first-cycle degree;
or
2. To have gained at least 40 university educational credits in at least two of these subjects: business management, economics, law and statistics/mathematics (ex D.M. 270/04 subjects): in one or more of the following scientific subjects:

3. Failing possession of the type of degree and/or credits listed above, admission to the second-cycle degree programme is conditional on graduating (in Italy or abroad) with a grade of at least 100/110 (for foreign degrees the grade considered is the one shown in the declaration of degree status or can be calculated from MIUR tables of correspondence or diplomatic equivalents), and on a preliminary assessment by a Committee checking knowledge and skills by interview or CV analysis.
The Committee is appointed by the Degree Programme Board and will set dates of interviews, to be published on the School Portal.
If the Committee judges the graduate's knowledge and skills to be compatible, it will issue a verdict of suitability, giving access to the personal knowledge assessment.
Assessment of knowledge and language skills
Candidates for this degree programme must be certified level B2 in English. Students already possessing the relevant certificates may be exempted.
The degree programme may require any student whose test rates them lower than B2 to make good this starting deficit. In such a position students will have to have passed the B2 English test before they may discuss their graduation dissertation.
Assessment of personal competencies and skills
To join the second-cycle degree programme you must not only possess the set curricular requirements , but undergo a personal knowledge assessment consisting of:
a) ascertainment that you passed your degree with a grade of 90/110 or upwards. This applies to:
- graduates from degree classes L-18 and L-33 (DM270/04);
- graduates from degree classes 17 and 28 (DM 509/99);
- graduates and diploma holders from the former degree system;
- graduates with foreign degrees in economics/business studies recognised as compatible and corresponding to a first-cycle degree (see point 1) Curricular requirements ); for foreign degrees the grade considered is the one shown in the declaration of degree status or can be calculated from MIUR tables of correspondence or diplomatic equivalents.
b) ascertainment that you passed a degree other than those listed in point 1) with a grade of 90/110 or upwards, or have gained at least 40 credits in the subjects listed at point 2) Curricular requirements . For foreign degrees the grade considered is the one shown in the declaration of degree status or can be calculated from MIUR tables of correspondence or diplomatic equivalents.
c) an individual interview for graduates falling under point 3) Curricular requirements, to establish the suitability of their personal knowledge for graduates falling under point a) and b) with a grade of 90/110 or downwards. The individual interview will be conducted by the same Committee of teachers appointed to verify curricular requirements . The Committee will set dates for interviews, to be published on the School Portal (www.ems.unibo.it).
The Degree Programme Board may evaluate positively passed the assessment of personal competencies and skills only if you present an old-system option claim, provided you have gained at least 6 credits in your university career hitherto.
The second-cycle degree programme may decide on a special session for international students and appoint a Committee to check the suitability of their academic background, if the Call for study grant allocation allows time (its deadline is usually in May).
