Laurea Specialistica a ciclo unico (Single second cycle degree) in Veterinary Medicine

The one-cycle 2nd cycle degree programme in Veterinary Medicine is a five-year degree programme (equal to 300 credits) with compulsory attendance and entails an entrance test.

The test is normally held during the first week of September.

The degree programme has been recognised for the second time in compliance to the standards established by EAEVE (European Association of Establishments of Veterinary Education), by EC directives 78/1027 and 78/1028 as well as by EU directive 2005/36. EAEVE is the institution appointed by the European Commission for the verification of the quality of veterinary education at EU level.

Graduates in the 2nd cycle degree programme in Veterinary Medicine must possess:

· the essential theoretical knowledge deriving from basic sciences with a view to their future professional application;

· ability to critically detect and evaluate the data pertaining to the health status, wellbeing and diseases of individual animals and in breeding, and to interpret them based on basic scientific knowledge of the physiopathology and pathologies of the body and apparatus and carrying out appropriate surgical and medical interventions suitable for removing the problem;

· knowledge of epidemiology, diagnosis, preventive, therapy and control of infectious and parasitic diseases in animals;

· the ability to critically detect and evaluate the state of healthiness, hygiene, quality and any alterations of food of animal origin that may prejudice human health; in addition they must know the production and transformation processes of the feeling of animal origin;

· knowledge of animal nutrition and feeding and breeding technologies;

· ability to critically detect and evaluate the impact of animal breeding on the environment.
