Conoscenze e abilità da conseguire

Il Workshop mira a migliorare la capacità degli studenti di applicare gli strumenti dell'analisi di politica estera alla politica estera dell'UE. Gli studenti saranno in grado di: 1) Applicare l'analisi di politica estera a casi di studio specifici della politica estera dell'UE; 2) Applicare teorie diverse a casi di studio specifici della politica estera dell'UE; 3) Valutare e discutere il ruolo svolto dall'UE, in quanto attore di politica estera, in casi di studio specifici.

Contenuti

This workshop takes place in the second semester and is designed for students taking the Europe in World Politics/The EU as a Global Actor course.

The first and second weeks introduce students to the empirical analysis of EU foreign policy using the actor constructivist approach.

During the third and fourth weeks, students will present in groups on Allison's models and the role of ideas in foreign policy.

In the remaining weeks, students apply the actor constructivist approach to specific case studies of EU foreign policy (the Russian war against Ukraine, the Israel-Hamas war, and relations with China) and specific EU foreign policy actors (the European Commission President, the European Council President, the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy).

At the end of the workshop, each student's group will have to record a podcast summarising the main findings of the empirical analysis conducted during the previous weeks.

Attending students will be divided into two or three groups. The topics will be assigned according to their preferences.

Modalità di verifica e valutazione dell'apprendimento

Attending students: 

Attendance: 90% (in presence)

Attending students will be divided into two or three groups according to their preferences

Each group will have to do weekly presentations (starting from the third week) and record a podcast with the main findings

Non-attending students: 

They will have to write a paper of 4000 words (all included) on a topic that will be published on eol.unibo.it one month before the official exam session
