Learning outcomes

After completing this module, students will be able to: plan intensive farm biosecurity measures, assess the management risk factors -plan and manage health problems as well as diagnostic and prophylactic measures.


Course contents


Lecture on biosecurity and health management in cattle, sheep and goats farms, presentation of the activities to be carried out on the farm with particular reference to the compilation of the biosafety forms. Farm's visit 1 in cattle farm Farm visit 2 sheep or goats farm Final session preparation of a working group (4 students) on the farms visited, discussion of the data collected and proposals for improvement of health management See Syllabus for activities details.

Teachers will provide relevant educational material on the group "Malattie Trasmissibili e Condizionalità".

Assessment methods

1. During the farms' visits, the trainee will fill out the biosecurity checks under the teacher supervision
2. During the observation of any clinical cases the trainee will make assumptions and perform differential diagnosis, He/she will collect pathological material if relevant. During theses activities, the teacher will check and correct.
3. At the end of the training period trainees will discuss with teachers and fellows any clinical case encountered and biosafety data collected by the means of PowerPoint presentations.
