Programme aims

The 2nd cycle degree / two year Master programme, delivered in English, considers fashion as a complex system of discourses, images and objects, in which ideas, design, production and consumption are woven together.The approach relates the theories and methodologies of industrial design, economics, modern art, photography, cinema and sociology, fostering a multi-disciplinary approach to the analysis and study of the fashion-object.In this interdisciplinary teaching framework which creates synergies between design process, production and communication strategies, the 2nd cycle degree/ two yearMaster programme provides the analytical and practical tools to develop cultural and creative strategies.

Within this learning programme, great importance is paid to economic course units, helping to build a common platform for the management of fashion businesses; managerial course units provide students with the conceptual tools required to analyse business structures and work actively in the markets, creating both market and business value and applying the operational dynamics of management to the fashion system. An equal balance of culture and management is adopted right from the first year, with contributions in both marketing and fashion product positioning strategies and more purely aesthetic and creative areas, as widely requested by companies in the sector to meet the demands of the market.

With an international profile, the programme aims to uphold the creative and production culture inherent in the world-renowned Italian fashion production system, meeting the frequent demands for educational support from foreign universities over the years. Moreover, the international profile is vital for guaranteeing the effective operational skills of graduates in the market, which is certainly not limited to Italy. The special features of the programme also make it unique on the international education market, not being limited exclusively to a design profile or purely business-oriented profile.

The 2nd cycle degree / two year Master programme aims to develop design, relational, management and organisational expertise, applied to the creative and productive fashion industry. In these professional fields, in order to perform some functions with greater levels of independence and responsibility, further skills may be acquired through internships and/or post-graduate vocational courses. Graduates are able to take on these post-graduate courses thanks to their cultural knowledge, critical and methodological skills and learning skills developed during this programme.

The described skills are developed through lectures, tutoring, multimedia laboratories and tailoring workshops, lectures by experts, workshops, local and national research projects, guided tours and internships.

Professional profiles

Fashion Trends, Culture and Communication Expert/Consultant

Function in a professional context:

Analyst for fashion trends, artistic management and organisation of products and events in the fashion sector. With increasing levels of independence in proportion to both experience and specialisation, these professional figures perform the following functions:
- Assisting the creative management and coordinating communication projects, liaising with the heads of coordinated image design
- Ability to identify, also from a historical perspective, the main fashion trends and to relate with product design managers by compiling reports on future scenarios and trends
- Managing public relations alongside the corresponding team, and knows how to organise and co-ordinate events for the sector press; can produce corporate visual and merchandising books, editorial content for printing and for the web;
- Conducting creative research for fashion collections and collaborates to optimise the creative pool solutions to ensure that serialized production is carried out with the greatest possible convertibility.

Artistic direction for product communication and the design, layout and organisation of events in the fashion industry

With increasing levels of independence proportionate to both experience and specialisation, these professional figures perform the following functions:
- Managing the promotion phase of the fashion product by developing an appropriate visual communication project
- Organising events for the fashion product with expertise in the exhibition design relating to both the commercial and cultural sectors
- Participating in and coordinating design and management teams for cultural events, exhibitions and fashion shows

Skills associated with the function
- Ability to exploit the fashion product in the contemporary economic, social and cultural system
- Ability to develop communication projects (visual, spatial or experiential) related to the commercial and / or cultural sector
- Ability to assess the impact of communication projects in the fashion industry thanks to historical-critical knowledge related to this field

Career Opportunities
Companies requiring the professional figure of an artistic director, with particular reference to those in the fashion industry

Admission requirements

Admission to the 2nd cycle degree programme in Fashion Studies is subject to the possession of a three-year university degree or a qualification recognised as suitable, which might also have been obtained from a degree system pre-Italian Ministerial Decree no. 509/99 or abroad.
Moreover, candidates must meet the curricular requirements and pass a test to assess their personal competences and skills.

Assessment of personal competences and skills

Admission to the degree programme is subject to the passing of a test to assess the candidates' personal competencies and skills, which will follow the methods laid down in the Degree Programme teaching regulations.

The students are required to prove that their knowledge of the English language and skills meet the standards of level B2.
