Learning outcomes
Perform basic wound assessment and care. Perform simple surgical manouvres.
Course contents
During the course and the practical labs, the students will learn the indications, the technical details, the critical points, the difficulties and the abilities to overcome the difficulties of the subsequent manouvres:
- Venous puncture: how to identify the ideal location and to insert a IV needle to draw blood
- Venous lines: identification of the site, positioning, and details of the technique
- arterial puncture: how to locate the radial artery and to draw arterial blood for ABG (arterial blood gas) test
- suturing: simple interrupted, vertical and horizontal mattress, running and subcuticular sutures. The differences between adsorbable and non-adsorbable, braided and monofilament stitches will be explained, as well as the indication for each of those sutures.

Teaching methods
The contents of the course will be explained during a 2 hour frontal lesson. Subsquently, the students will be divided into 4 groups (15 students/each) and will attend the practical labs for at least 13 hours in order to learn and practice the different techniques.
Assessment methods
The techniques wil be performed under a strict supervision of the tutor during the labs. A final session of Q&A will be done. During the last session, the students will undergo a test consisting in performing one of the different techniques learnt during the course
