Learning outcomes

M-PSI/05: At the end of the activity students will know: how to apply community psychology methods and principles to the development of an intervention and the dynamics of different groups in social and community contexts

M-PSI/08: At the end of classes, students will be able to carry out an appropriate assessment and will know how to apply the correct clinical methodology according to the single clinical case.

Course contents

M-PSI/05 (Module 1 of Social Psychology, Teacher: Prof. Elisabetta Crocetti)

The laboratory will allow students to learn and apply the methods and instruments of social psychology with respect to the experience of migration. Particular attention will be payed to identity formation pathways in young migrants. Different types of acculturation orientations will be discussed, focusing on the perspectives of migrants as well as of the host society.

The laboratory includes the following activities:

1. Analysis of identity pathways in young migrants

2. The migration experience as a process of identity redefinition

3. Acculturative processes and ethnic identity

4. Effects of identity formation on the well-being of migrants

5. Critical analysis of interventions aimed at promoting identity formation in young migrants. Evaluation of objectives, methods, feasibility, and effectiveness of the interventions. Discussion of their strengths and limitations.

6. Planning of a new psychosocial intervention (objectives and methodologies).

1) The clinical interview in clinical psychology: conceptual and methodological aspects.

2) The clinical interview in the Cognitive-Behavior Therapy (CBT).

3) The clinical interview in the Well-Being Therapy (WBT).

4) The clinical interview in the Schema Therapy.

 

(Module 2/2 of Clinical Psychology, Prof. Giulia Landi)

Students will learn how to apply the structure of a psychological clinical interview and to the assessment of the clinical case according to different models in clinical psychology.

The course includes the following activities:

1. Comparisons between psychodynamic, behavioral, cognitivist, and systemic theoretical models and their use in Clinical Psychology;

2. Identification of signs, symptoms and syndromes in clinical psychology, diagnostic assessment and treatment planning;

3. Practical exercises regarding the construct of psychological flexibility.

Teaching methods

In addition to brief lectures, teaching methods will include:

  • Practical exercise in small groups
  • Guided discussions
  • Literature research
  • Presentation and evaluation of a scientific article
  • Analysis of quantitative data
  • Gamification

M-PSI/08 (Modules 2/1 and 2/2 of Clinical Psychology)

Academic lectures will be combined with practical exercises and work group discussions (e.g., role-playing activities and clinical case presentations).

Assessment methods

M-PSI/05 (Module 1 of Social Psychology, Teacher: Prof. Elisabetta Crocetti)

To pass the exam students are requested to:

  • attend classes and participate to discussions
  • participate actively to a group presentation concerning the critical analysis of an intervention
  • contribute to a group presentation concerning the planning of a new intervention

M-PSI/08

Class attendance is mandatory and active participation is highly recommended.

The final examination will consist of an oral exam at the end of the course.

The final examination will consist of the presentation of a clinical case in small groups (assessment and treatment hypothesis).
