Learning outcomes

At the end of the course the student knows the main concepts and theoretical approaches developed by the discipline to understand work and organizational behavior and its correlates, antecedents and consequences, with an emphasis on health and well-being.

Course contents

Main topics covered by the course:

- The latent functions of work and the meaning of work.

- Work motivation.

- Job satisfaction and engagement.

- Personality at work.

- Stress at work, burnout and other stress-related outcomes.

- Explaining the psychological and well-being outcomes of the work experience (demand-control model, effort-reward imbalance, recovery model and perseverative cognition hypothesis).

Slides ppt. provided by the lecturer at the beginning of the course. Students who will not attend the meetings can use the following book: Sarchielli, G., e Fraccaroli, F. (2017). Introduzione alla psicologia del lavoro. Bologna: Il Mulino. ONLY CHAPTERS: II, III, VI e VII.

Teaching methods

Presentations given by the lecturer. Group discussions will be stimulated and some case studies presented. Self-assessment on some of the psychological constructs presented during the course (e.g., personality, motivation)

Assessment methods

Written examination based on 23 multiple choice questions and 2 open-ended questions, for a total of 25 questions. Multiple choice questions will assign 1 point each (with no penalty for wrong responses); open ended questions will assign 3.5 points each. 30 cum laude will be assigned to students who will respond to all the questions correctly if the responses given to open ended questions will be clear, relevant and complete.
