B1969 - FONDAMENTI DI MECCANICA DELLE MACCHINE P

Academic Year 2023/2024

  • Teaching Mode: Traditional lectures
  • Campus: Bologna
  • Corso: First cycle degree programme (L) in Polymeric Composite (cod. 5941)

Learning outcomes

Upon completion of the course, the student knows the theoretical basis for the analytical and graphical treatment of kinematic, static and dynamic problems of constrained rigid-body material systems. In particular, the student: 1) knows the fundamental quantities of mechanics, constraints and energy aspects related to contact between bodies; 2) is able to define mathematical kinematic and dynamic models of plane mechanisms; 3) knows the basics of some dynamic problems of machines, such as balancing and vibrations.

Course contents

1. Composition of machines

2. Rigid body mechanics

3. Dissipative actions in machine components

4. Static analysis of kinematic pairs

5. Kinetostatic analysis of mechanisms

6. Kinematics of rigid body

7. Kinematic analysis of mechanisms

8. Dynamics of rigid body

9. Dynamic analysis of mechanisms

Teaching methods

The course provides the main theoretical and practical foundations of applied mechanics and consists of lectures and exercises. The final aim of the course is to provide the basis for the kinematic, static and dynamic analysis of mechanisms.

Several practical examples are provided, both of components and mechanisms, to show the application of the proposed concepts. Particular importance is given to the analytical and computational aspects, in order to allow the development of mathematical models of some simple mechanical systems.

Class attendance, while not mandatory, plays a key role in the learning and assessment process

Assessment methods

The examination consists of solving some simple problems or theoretical questions to verify the possession of the knowledge provided in the course syllabus.

During the examination, questions in written or oral form may be proposed at the discretion of the committee.

In particular, the examination is designed to assess the achievement of the educational objectives of the teaching.

The ability shown by the student in setting up problem-solving and/or correctly articulating and expounding the answers to the questions constitutes an element for awarding the grade. Demonstration of a particular level of depth of study includes an essential factor in the eventual award of honors.

Demonstrations, models and calculations presented in class are part of the syllabus and are subject to examination.

Teaching tools

Some presentations will be used during the course to support the theoretical arguments. The material is made available on the "Virtuale" site.
