Learning outcomes

The student is thoroughly acquainted with linguistic and discursive aspects of the Polish language from both synchronic and diachronic perspectives, including in its applications to textual analysis and translation. Through practical exercises, his communicative competence in all skills, active and passive, progresses toward the C2 level of the Common European Framework of Reference, which makes him able to effectively interpret the socio-linguistic and cultural codes of those involved in a communicative relationship

Course contents

Classes are held by Marta Wanicka twice a week.

The first weekly class will cover topics related to academic writing, particularly the analysis and interpretation of poetic and literary texts.

The second class will be laboratory-based. Students will take a placement test to assess their language level at the beginning of the course, and then, under the teacher's guidance and direction, they will follow their own learning road, having at their disposal a wide range of materials, including grammar manuals and vocabularies, literary and journalistic texts.

All materials used during the lectures will be provided by the lecturer or uploaded to the virtual platform.

Teaching methods

Assessment methods

Non-native speakers will be required to take a four-hour written exam at the C2 level. In addition, the correctness and adequacy of the language in the analyses of the translation series will be assessed.

Native speakers will not be required to take a written exam, but they will have to prepare work that may consist of preparing teaching materials for teaching Polish as a second language, analyzing poetic texts or creating a dossier of "untranslatable" terms from Polish to Italian. Native speakers are invited to consult the lecturer to agree on the topic of their work.
