Learning outcomes

The student acquires the different types of research studies, measurements and tools of social research. The student is able to apply the concepts in the construction of the thesis as a research tool, in the publication of an article or a poster. Primary studies: sensitivity, specificity, diagnostic accuracy, predictive values of diagnostic tools. Secondary studies: Characteristics of secondary studies. Systematic reviews and guidelines

Course contents

The following topics will be covered:
EBM, evidence-based medicine: Definitions, history, limits, etc.
Knowledge of the basic principles of research and its use in databases.
Primary sources (experimental, descriptive, qualitative) and secondary sources (reviews, meta-analysis, LG, HTA) will be treated with their characteristics and peculiarities.
The research design will be analyzed with the typology of the Etiological, Prognostic, Diagnostic studies in the various cross-sectional/longitudinal, prospective/retrospective, observational/experimental, cohort/case control, and other components.
Basics of statistics on variables and sampling.
The research tool for the construction of a thesis, a scientific article, an oral presentation or a poster will be analysed.
