00432 - Earth Physics

Academic Year 2023/2024

  • Teaching Mode: Traditional lectures
  • Campus: Bologna
  • Corso: First cycle degree programme (L) in Geological Sciences (cod. 8015)

Learning outcomes

At the end of the course the student knows the internal structure of the Earth from a physical (seismic, gravimetric, thermal, magnetic) point of view and the tectonophysical processes that shaped it. The student knows the main rheological models for the Earth interior, the main exploration methods that allowed to define the Earth structure and the still open questions. The student is capable to apply these concepts to the basic interpretation of data acquired by means of the methodologies described above.

Course contents

Basic elements of metrology, error theory, regression theory. Eigenvalues and eigenvectors.

SEISMOLOGY and SEISMIC PROSPECTION (body wave)
