34638 - Laboratory of general technologies of materials and industrial applications of plasmas M

Academic Year 2023/2024

  • Teaching Mode: Traditional lectures
  • Campus: Bologna
  • Corso: Second cycle degree programme (LM) in Energy Engineering (cod. 0935)

Learning outcomes

At the end of the course, the student has acquired the ability to design and manage processes assisted by plasmas at atmospheric pressure. He is also able to autonomously perform their experimental characterization and the analysis of their effectiveness for the process under investigation.

Course contents

This course is based at the laboratory for Industrial Applications of Plasmas of the Department of Industrial Engineering and it is structured in projects carried out in working groups for the development and characterization of innovative plasma sources and processes.

The subjects of the projects will be chosen by the working groups among those suggested by the teacher, which can span on the following areas:

  • Design and realisation of a plasma source
  • Characterisation of plasma processes
  • Technological transfer with design thinking approaches

The activities foreseen in the projects will include:

  • Design and manufacturing of prototypes of the plasma sources and processes under investigation;
  • Experimental tests in laboratory for plasma sources diagnostics, for the characterization of the processes and of treated materials, and for the evaluation of the biological effects of plasma treatments;
  • Analysis of scientific and patent literature regarding the source/process under investigation, analysis of the results of the experimental tests, evaluation of market and economic sustainability of the source/process.

Teaching methods

Lectures and experimental and process design activities in the laboratory

In consideration of the types of activities and teaching methods adopted, the attendance of this activity requires all students to carry out Modules 1 and 2 of the Health and Safety Training for Study and Research Areas [https://www.unibo.it/en/services-and-opportunities/health-and-assistance/health-and-safety/online-course-on-health-and-safety-in-study-and-internship-areas] in e-learning mode and to participate in Module 3 of the Health and Safety Training for Study and Research Areas. Information on dates and methods of attendance for Module 3 can be consulted in the specific section of the degree program website.

The course participates to the University project on innovation in teaching
