Learning outcomes

The student is able to understand and produce a wide range of written texts and complex oral discourse in Spanish, expressing him/herself fluently and spontaneously.

Course contents

Among the grammatical topics covered, the most relevant will be:

- verbal periphrastic structures;

- Spanish/Italian contrast: from morphosyntax to discourse;

- conjunctions and conjunctive locutions: standard, formal and informal register;

- prepositions, conjunctions and multifunctional locutions: modal implications;

- main linguistic features of American Spanish;

- some mechanisms for word formation.

Teaching methods

Classes are face-to-face and require the active participation of students with oral presentations of historical and cultural topics related to the Spanish-speaking world, discussions and speeches

Classes in this course require 70% student attendance.

Assessment methods

The final exam will consist of a written test, in which grammatical skills and written production will be evaluated, and an oral exam, in which oral skills and critical analysis of one of the three texts proposed by the teacher on Spanish linguistics will be evaluated:

The final grade will be the average of the written and oral grades.

Only students who have passed the written test will be allowed to take the oral test.

Teaching tools

Teaching will be carried out through the analysis and commentary of texts (audiovisual and written) of current affairs and Spanish culture, a dossier provided by the teacher at the beginning of the course and the consultation of the basic bibliography.
