Learning outcomes

At the end of the module, the student is able to interpret contemporary communication phenomena and techniques through the use of methodological tools. In particular, the student possesses the methodological tools for understanding and interpreting the social organisation of communication processes, as well as the basic knowledge aimed at focusing on the social, historical, cultural and power context in which they are called upon to operate as designers.

Course contents

Module 1 of this course aims to introduce students to the semiotic method for studying objects and their design. In particular, the first part of the course will be devoted to the main themes of semiotic theory applied to design and the role of objects in our daily experience. The second part will focus on how to apply the semiotic method to the various phases of product design and communication, through exercises and concrete case studies.
