75839 - Seminar (1) (G-F)

Academic Year 2021/2022

  • Teaching Mode: Traditional lectures
  • Campus: Bologna
  • Corso: First cycle degree programme (L) in Humanities (cod. 8850)

Learning outcomes

At the end of the seminar (activity closely related to the goal of the degree program), the student acquires specific skills and notions to deal with linguistic and/or philological and/or literary and/or historical and/or artistic issues.

Course contents

The seminar, lasting 30 hours, aims to train students in textual exegesis, i.e., in historicization, discussion and interpretation of literary texts, documents related to the life and work of the authors (e.g., letters or other contemporary testimonies) and of the most disparate contributions of the critical debate. As an example, the complex human, literary and political personality of Foscolo, an author whose understanding is still largely elusive, will be examined. The exploration will touch the writer’s entire life, from birth to death, and will be accompanied by an overview of history and culture between the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, between Napoleon, the Restoration, and the incipient Risorgimento.

Course timetable:

  • Tuesday 13-15 pm, Aula C, Via Zamboni 34;
  • Thursday 17-19 pm, Aula C, Via Zamboni 34;
  • Friday 17-19 pm, Aula C, Via Zamboni 34.

Beginning of the course: 22.3.2022

Readings/Bibliography

The analysed texts will be available, with some exceptions that will be reported on www.bibliotecaitaliana.it, or they will be uploaded by the teacher directly on IOL: in any case they will be reported and / or made available before each meeting.

Teaching methods

The interpretative and methodological proposals put forward by the teacher will be subjected to a collective discussion: in each lesson, ample space will in fact be reserved for debate.

Assessment methods

Due to the seminar nature of the meetings, attendance is mandatory: it will be verified by collecting signatures. No more than 3 total absences will be possible.

A maximum of 50 students will be able to participate: interested parties must write an email to the teacher (andrea.campana@unibo.it), who will register the names until all places are available.

The final evaluation will be «idoneo» or «non-idoneo».

To be evaluated «idoneo», the student (in addition to having attended at least 12 out of 15 meetings) will have to undergo an interview, in which he will have to demonstrate that he masters the main interpretative problems related to author and the texts treated, with maturity of judgment and articulated competence.

Topics of the interview: the notes of the seminar, the texts analysed and discussed in class (available on www.bibliotecaitaliana.it or on IOL), the integral reading of The Last Letters of Jacopo Ortis, in one of the following editions: ed. by W. Binni-L. Felici, Garzanti; ed. by G. Davico Bonino, Einaudi; ed. by P. Frare, Feltrinelli; ed. by G. Ioli, Einaudi; ed. by E. Sanguineti-G. Bezzola, BUR; ed. by M. A. Terzoli, in U. Foscolo, Opere, ed. dir. by F. Gavazzeni, vol. 2, Prose, Einaudi-Gallimard, 1995, pp. 3-209 e 745-850; ed. by M. A. Terzoli, Carocci; ed. by V. Vianello, Millennium.
