Learning outcomes

In the course the students will develop a structural project related to framed structures or lattice systems. The project will be done by the student alone or in small groups, under the supervision of the instructor.

Course contents

The course will be devoted to the design of a steel industrial building, composed by framed structures.

Learning outcomes:

  • Definition of the acting loads: design dead and live loads, limit state load combinations
  • Structural analysis of the framed structure
  • Design of the structural elements: purlins, truss system, columns, connections, foundations.
  • Preparation of a technical report of the project

Teaching methods

Group exercise. Lectures about the main topics of the structural design and reviews of the project done by the students
