Learning outcomes
The workshop aims to allow students in the Social and Political Research Methods LM course to acquire a practical experience of micro-data analysis using the statistical package Stata. By the end of the workshop, students will be able to perform basic Stata programming to: import and manage data and variables, implement descriptive statistical analyses.
Course contents
The course is aimed at students attending the course of Social and Political Research Methods LM. Through practice exercises, student will apply knowledge acquired during the course in the field of data analysis by means of dedicated statistical analysis software and databases.

All necessary material will be provided by the teacher.
Teaching methods
Practical lectures in the computer laboratory. The course also provides an introduction to statistical software packages for research in social sciences (i.e. Stata) and practical exercises in setting up data files, manipulating variables and running statistical programs.
Assessment methods
During the last class, students will take a written exam aimed at evaluating their ability to perform simple statistical analyses of survey data using STATA and to present the results of these analyses in graphs and tables.
Teaching tools
Lessons will be held in the computer lab and students will have access to statistical software packages.
