Learning outcomes

At the end of the course the student: - has the knowledge to understand the fundamental structure of the Internet as a packet-switched network and the main services offered by the World Wide Web such as e-mail, instant messaging, remote connections, the evolution of social network services, Web2.0, information retrivial processes on the Web; - also has basic knowledge on the use of spreadsheets (operations, functions, graphs), and database management tools (tables, reports, forms and queries).

Course contents

Computer architecture.
Binary systems.
Input and output devices.
Secondary memories.
Operating system: operating systems, Windows 10.
The software: application programs, Office suites.
Word processing: basic use of a word processing software (creation and layout of documents).
Spreadsheet: basic use of a spreadsheet software (operations, functions, graphs).
Multimedia presentations: basic use of software for creating multimedia presentations (slides, graphic objects).
Databases: database management (construction of tables, reports, forms, and queries).
Open Source and software licenses.
Computer networks: technical knowledge of the fundamental structure of the Internet as a packet-switched network.
The web: basic concepts, main services offered, analysis of Web 2.0 services.
Bibliographic and documental research online.

Readings/Bibliography

It is not necessary to purchase specific texts. The slides presented in class are sufficient for the theoretical part of the course.
