73766 - New Technologies for the Survey of Architecture

Academic Year 2017/2018

  • Teaching Mode: Traditional lectures
  • Campus: Cesena
  • Corso: Single cycle degree programme (LMCU) in Architecture (cod. 0881)

Learning outcomes

The aim of the course is to provide the skills and modes of operation - in the use of instruments in active and passive sensors for surveying the built heritage; - in management, editing and restitution of 2D and 3D digital models for the purpose of documenting architectural artifacts and/or archaeological sites.

Course contents

The course is divided into theoretical and practical lessons for learning the operating modes of the survey, the use of different instruments, the integration of various procedures accessories to the survey and for the representation. The topics covered in the lectures will be as follows:

- general problems and questions of principle on the survey;

- the survey for restoration and consolidation;

- instrumental survey and photogrammetric: the tools, techniques used and the methodologies. The procedures and methods for the total station for the architectural survey. Particular attention is devoted to the use of laser scanner: operations in situ and graphic representation of the acquired data.

Teaching methods

During the lectures will discussed the general issues related to the architectural survey and the use of digital tools of survey The course will be joined by exercises in the laboratory and outdoors. The exercises will be individual and collective, and are intended to provide the opportunity for each student to be able to apply methodologies related to lectures. The activities will be programmed according to the topics to analyze and develop that will be proposed by the students. There will be integration of knowledge, already gained in the course of survey, with what is necessary for setting up a scientific survey due to the use of digital tools. Attention will be focused in particular on setting up a survey project, on the difference between direct survey and instrumental, on issues related to the use of a total station or a laser scanner (construction and control of polygonal, trilaterations and triangulations, management of the cloud of points, etc.).

Assessment methods

The exam is oral and likely will include a series of questions aimed at assessing the theoretical knowledge by the student on the technology presented in class, and the solution to a practical problem about the type of cases dealt with during lab hours.
