Learning outcomes
To analyze environmental systems and processes producing different Earth surface evolution and landforms at different space and time scales.
Course contents
MODULE I -Introduce geomorphology by the recognition of the
geological features of the Earth. Describe rock structure as a
landform control. Study the upper layer of the Earth's crust, which
provides rock materials that can be shaped into landforms by
running water, wind, waves and ice. Types of weathering. Erosion,
transport, and deposition. Mass wasting, downslope movement of
rock and soil under the influence of gravity. Study surface water
and landforms shaped by streams. Drainage system, divide, drainage
basin, patterns, and base level. Study of the hydrologic
cycle and groudwaters. Describe the factors that combine to
create the variety of coastal landscapes. The work of waves and
tides. The work of winds and the desert environment. Describe
glacial landforms and glaciation cycles.
MODULE II The main topographic variables, water runoff and the spatial configuration of geomorphic processes and the drainage basin scale. Mass wasting typologies, sediment delivery to streams and the morphology of mountain stream channels.

Teaching methods
Lessons, laboratories, seminars and field trips
Assessment methods
Oral examination. The questions are intended to evaluate if the
candidate has the basic knowledge of the arguments illustrated in
the course. Presentation of topographic maps analysed during the
course and reports related to field excursions.
