Learning outcomes

At the end of the course, the student knows the basic grammatical structures of the Polish language, possesses elementary oral and written language competence, and is able to interact in a limited number of everyday communicative situations. Student will learn skills equivalent to level A1 in all abilities according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).

Course contents

Lectures will be held in presence for students of the Bologna campus and on line (on MS Teams) for students of the Forlì campus.

The course is divided into a theoretical part (Nadzieja Bąkowska, PhD) and a practical part (Marta Wanicka, MA).

The first part (teacher: Nadzieja Bąkowska, PhD; 2nd semester) focuses on textual analysis, with reference also to some grammatical specificities of Polish language, and involves analysis of short texts of different genres in the original language. Students will be provided with the detailed programme and the reading list at the beginning of the course.

The second part (teacher: Marta Wanicka, MA; 1st and 2nd semester) aims at the practical acquisition of basic phonetical, morphological and syntactic competences by the student.

Assessment methods

The final exam aims at verifying the acquisition of the four linguistic skills (written and oral comprehension, written and oral production) at the CEFR level indicated in the section of the course programme titled “learning outcomes”.

The exam consists of three parts: a written self-evaluation in Polish (1st year: min. 200 words; 2nd year: min. 300 words; 3rd year: min. 500 words), a written test and an oral exam. All students (included Polish native speakers) have to pass the written exam to access the oral one.

The written test aims at assessing the students' writing skills, both active and passive, whereas the oral exam has the aim of evaluating their capacity of speaking and oral understanding, as well as the theoretical competences conveyed by the part of the course held by prof. Nadzieja Bąkowska. Both the written test and the oral exam will base on the topics developed during the classes and on the works indicated in the pogramme bibliography.

In case of Polish-born students, the exam will base on the specific texts indicated in the programme bibliography (must be agreed upon previously with the lecturer).

The final mark will be the average of the marks obtained in the written test and in the oral exam (both for the theoretical and the practical part).

Students with SLD or temporary or permanent disabilities.
