Nadzieja Bąkowska, PhD, is a tenure-track assistant professor of Polish language and literature. In 2023, she obtained a habilitation degree in Polish Studies. She has held a three-year postdoctoral fellowship in the field of Translation Studies with a research project focussed on self-translation in Polish émigré literature (University of Bologna). She received a bi-national doctoral degree cum laude at the University of Warsaw and University of Bologna. Her areas of research span from medieval to contemporary Polish literature, Polish-Italian literary relations, translation studies, theory of literature, literary humour, the pedagogy of Polish and Italian as foreign languages. She has published articles in scholarly journals and collective academic books, as well as translations of both literary and scientific texts from Polish into Italian and vice versa. Her book on comic structures and senses of metafiction in Pirandello’s and Gombrowicz’s theatrical works, Metafikcja komiczna i komizm metafikcyjny w dramatach Luigiego Pirandella i Witolda Gombrowicza. Studium porównawcze, was published by Wydawnictwa Uniwersytetu Warszawskiego in 2023.
