Conoscenze e abilità da conseguire

The course aims at offering an analysis of some of the global challenges the population of the planet has been facing since the second half of the XX century. Among these, the critical relation with the natural resources and with the concept of development and, above all, climate change, the greatest global challenge of our age, with its connections to territorial development, ecological risk and food security, tourism and the consumption of natural resources. At the end of the course, the student will have acquired the critical tools to analyse the global challenges of our society, through the acquisition of theoretical and empirical knowledge on climate change, environmental and socio-cultural impacts of development and tourism, the promotion and protection of biological and cultural diversity.

Contenuti

Senior Seminar in Global Humanities is conceived as an interdisciplinary space of discussion around the so called "spatial turn" that is investing all fields of the Humanities (history, anthropology, geography, philosophy, political theory).

Guests and visiting scholars from all over the world will teach 8-hour short intensive courses and two lectures (8 hours).

  • IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR INCOMING/MOBILITY STUDENTS

The Senior Seminar in Global Humanities takes place throughout the entire academic year. To earn credits (ECTS), students are required to attend at least 4 seminar cycles (each consisting of four lessons, two hours each).

Therefore, ONLY students on mobility for the entire academic year 2025/2026 or during the second semester will be able to meet the attendance requirements and obtain credits.

If you wish to attend the seminar cycles, you must contact the course office at disci.gloc@unibo.it at least two weeks before the seminar cycle begins to receive the readings provided by the instructor for each cycle.

Modalità di verifica e valutazione dell'apprendimento

Students are expected to attend at least four (4) short intensive courses (4 seminar cycles, each consisting of four lessons, two hours each). The Senior Seminar is graded on a pass/no pass basis, and in order to earn 6 credits (ECTS), students are required to submit a 3000-word paper on one of the short intensive courses attended, starting from the end of May 2026.
