Conoscenze e abilità da conseguire
Al termine del corso, gli studenti comprenderanno i concetti di strategia, settore e concorrenza, nonché le principali sfide che le aziende affrontano nel competere sui mercati internazionali. Avranno acquisito conoscenze sufficienti per valutare l'attrattività di un settore e le fonti del vantaggio competitivo di un'azienda, concentrandosi sulle imprese multinazionali.
Contenuti
The course provides a foundation in the concepts of strategy, industry, and competition, and then delves into the strategies adopted by multinational firms in global contexts characterized by rapid technological change, evolving demand, and institutional transformations. Operating on a global scale allows firms to access new markets and resources, but also entails greater exposure to risks, complexity, and regulatory constraints. The course therefore analyzes both the opportunities and challenges of internationalization.
The main topics covered include:
Globalization and the international institutional context
The concept of strategy and value creation
Industry and its evolution
Analysis of industry attractiveness
Corporate strategy and sources of competitive advantage
Global strategy and multinational enterprises
Methods of entering developed and emerging markets
The role of institutions and legal systems in strategic decisions
Particular attention will be given to legal and regulatory aspects, including:
competition law
regulation of digital markets
international compliance
foreign investment and governance
During the course, a group project will be developed, aimed at applying theoretical concepts to the analysis of a real-world case of international expansion.

The lectures combine theoretical content with practical applications, with a particular focus on the interaction between business strategy and the legal context.
Modalità di verifica e valutazione dell'apprendimento
The final grade is expressed on a scale of 30 and consists of:
Group project work (graded out of 30), including a presentation and discussion
Individual written exam (graded out of 30), consisting of a test with multiple-choice questions designed to assess the acquisition of knowledge and the analytical, synthesis, and argumentation skills developed during the course
The written exam will be graded based on the following criteria:
knowledge of institutional frameworks;
the ability to analyze jurisprudential and doctrinal trends, where relevant;
the ability to establish connections between different parts of the syllabus;
the ability to develop critical arguments;
clarity and coherence of presentation;
accuracy of presentation and appropriate use of terminology.
The final grade is determined by the average of the project work grade and the written exam grade.
Active participation in class may be rewarded, at the instructor’s discretion, with a bonus of up to a maximum of [1/2] points toward the final grade.
