Conoscenze e abilità da conseguire

Describe the clinical manifestations, etiology, epidemiology, risk factors, natural history, diagnosis, staging, prognostic indicators and management of the major gynecologic diseases and related conditions, with emphasis on those most commonly encountered in the clinical practice. Identify the major diagnostic and therapeutic options for each encountered clinical scenario, and discuss their benefits ane limitations. Describe the course of a normal pregnancy and effective healthcare during pregnancy to ensure the health of the mother and fetus. Discuss the proper management of labor and delivery and the management of common medical complications that occur during and after pregnancy. Present and critically analyze clinical cases, discuss the differential diagnosis, and formulate appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic strategies for each case (Problem-Based Learning).

Maternal adaptations in pregnancy: cardiovascular, respiratory, renal, metabolic, and immunologic changes; Maternal nutrition and metabolic requirements; Drugs in pregnancy and lactation; Principles of antenatal care: scheduling, risk assessment, and counseling; Obstetric ultrasound: techniques, normal anatomy, and detection of anomalies; Non-invasive prenatal testing (NIPT) and Rh genotyping from maternal blood; Labor and delivery: physiology, stages, and management; Obstetric surgery: indications, techniques, and postpartum care; Management of premature delivery and complications; Miscarriage and trophoblastic disease; Ectopic pregnancy: diagnosis and treatment; Anti-erythocyte alloimmunizations: prevention and management; Placenta previa and placental abruption; Hypertension in pregnancy: preeclampsia, chronic hypertension, and management; Diabetes in pregnancy: gestational and preexisting diabetes; Fetal growth restriction: diagnosis, monitoring, and management; Multiple gestations: complications and clinical strategies;  Infections in pregnancy

 

Reproductive axis and female gonadal function regulation throughout life. The normal and abnormal menstrual cycle. Hyperandrogenism and PCOS. Pathophysiology and clinic of menopause. Contraception. Endometriosis and female chronic pelvic pain. Infertility and sterility. Assisted reproduction. Pelvic inflammatory disease and sexually transmitted genital infections. Benign gynecological diseases. Endometrial tumors and endometrial carcinoma. Cervical diseases and cervical carcinoma. Ovarian neoplasms. Genital prolapse. Female urinary incontinence. New surgical techniques and minimally invasive surgery in gynecology.

The purpose of the oral exam is to verify the student's ability to apply knowledge and to make the required deductive reasoning and logic.

Preparation on very limited number of topics covered during the course and developing of analytical skills only with the assistance of the professor, using the proper language → 18-19;

Preparation on limited number of topics covered during the course and analytical skills only on purely executive matters, using the proper language → 20-24;

Preparation on large number of topics covered during the course, ability to make independent choices of critical thinking, mastery of specific terminology → 25-29;

Exhaustive preparation on the topics covered during the course, ability to make autonomous choices of critical thinking and connection, full mastery of specific terminology, argue and self-reflection skills → 30-30 cum laude.
