75839 - Seminar (1) (G-G)

Academic Year 2021/2022

  • Teaching Mode: Traditional lectures
  • Campus: Bologna
  • Corso: First cycle degree programme (L) in Humanities (cod. 8850)

Learning outcomes

At the end of the seminar, the student will become acquainted with the literary texts proposed in the seminar and will acquire a specific knowledge of the main notions of classical philology.

Course contents

This recently established seminar aims to meet a request expressed by the students of the Master's Degree in Philology, Literature and Classical Tradition of the University of Bologna: to be given the opportunity to begin the study of Classical Philology during the first-cycle degree in Humanities. Starting from the next academic year, 2022-2023, the seminar will be converted into a regular course (Master's Degree in Philology, Literature and Classical Tradition- 6 credits).

The basic notions of stemmatics, textual criticism, and ecdotics will be illustrated through a series of examples taken from classical texts (especially Latin, so that the seminar can be attended by non-classicists as well). The course will focus on the reading of critical apparatuses and on the discussion of textual problems of different kinds.

Readings/Bibliography

All the texts used during the seminar will be available among the online teaching resources.

Teaching methods

Frontal lessons will be integrated with a series of practical exercises, based on the reading of critical apparatuses and on the discussion of textual problems.

Assessment methods

The oral examination will be an interview in which the professor, through a series of questions, will test the theoretical knowledge and the theoretical-practical methodologies as explained during the lectures. The student will also be invited to read a text, different from those analysed during the lessons, to show his/her ability to read a critical apparatus and to discuss the main textual problems.

The candidate will pass the exam by proving to be able to read and analyse the text - provided with critical apparatus - proposed by the professor. In this case, the evaluation will be "idoneo". In the opposite case, the evaluation will be "non idoneo".
