Abstract
Bovine mastitis has been associated with substantial economic losses and increased development of antimicrobial-resistant strains. MASTITOMIC project arises from the hypothesis that subclinical mastitis may occur from a mammary gland dysbiosis and thus the project aims i) to characterize the evolution of host-microbiota interaction; ii) to assess the role of host genetics, environmental factors, and mammary microbiota in mastitis infection; iii) to find risk factors associated with mastitis occurrence. The joint analysis of data will allow to evaluate the feasibility of sensors for early detection of mastitis infection in dairy cattle and will provide an unprecedented insight into host-microbiome interaction in healthy and mastitic cows.
