Abstract
While the project successfully achieved its primary research goals, some research problems that comes into play in the development of quantum communication and network infrastructures have been identified. Among such problems, the following ones are expected to be central toward the development of the quantum Internet in which classical and quantum systems will cooperate to enhance existing applications and enable new ones: - development of synergistic state-measurement codesign methodologies that account for experimental constraints as well as performance requirements posed by the applications; - integration and employment of non-Gaussian quantum processing and control techniques to mitigate the effect of decoherence and preserve the physical properties of quantum states; and - synergistic integration of QECC schemes in quantum information systems and development of novel QECC schemes tailored to emerging physical platforms utilized for implementing qubits. 2) Final comments The findings of the project pave the way for quantum communication systems and networks with unprecedented performance. Overall, the project established solid foundations for future work, which will further contribute to advance the national and European knowledge and expertise towards the development of next-generation information systems.
