SPART-WISE

Community Action through Sport and Art - Social Inclusion and Cross-disciplinary Engagement

Abstract

The project SPART-WISE (Community Action through Sport and Art - Social Inclusion and Cross- disciplinary Engagement) has been restructured to align with the thematic lines of the Department of Arts at the University of Bologna, in accordance with the department’s ongoing research in the field of cultural welfare. The project seeks to analyze methodologies for studying, and evaluating cultural welfare practices that combine socially engaged artistic actions, civic engagement, urban regeneration, and direct territorial care, with a particular focus on sport. The objective is to define a methodological approach to action research that integrates sociological inquiry within a specific community context with socially engaged artistic practices. This involves exploring new forms of community cultural organization and examining how they impact social policies through the sporting element and the social aggregation it activates. The focus on grassroots cultural welfare will explore the intersection of sports, social inclusion, and civic engagement, with emphasis on gender issues within community contexts. As anticipated, the overseas mobility period will be reduced from the 24 months outlined in the original MSCA proposal to the 6 months specified in the call. Visiting periods are planned at the Universidad de Buenos Aires (UBA), the San Lorenzo de Almagro sports club, and the transfeminist football team La Nuestra. This research, noted for its innovative characteristics during the MSCA evaluation, will be disseminated through publications and conferences, as well as communicated through specialized scientific papers. This direct connection with Argentina will benefit the University of Bologna by constructing a knowledge network that facilitates student mobility (Erasmus KA171) and strengthens ties with the University’s Argentine branch (Centro de Altos Estudios de la Universidad de Bologna en Buenos Aires), opening new research fields in the humanities sector. Through dissemination and communication actions, University of Bologna gains a unique position by adopting a new research methodology to study and design civic engagement and inclusion, which expands interdisciplinarily within the Department of Arts. This will primarily impact the student community, who will learn about this new methodology through workshops and seminars. Additionally, research findings will be shared with the general audience and sports communities, thereby enhancing University of Bologna visibility and recognition in the socio-sporting field. During the onfield research, UBA University benefits by systematizing its work on grassroots football-based associationism as a cultural welfare element, networking its informal knowledge, and developing a new set of co-designed workshops and actions. By introducing this interdisciplinary research, SPARTWISE will position me as a key figure capable of co-designing projects aimed at social inclusion and active citizenship.
