General information on professional staff
The role of professional staff
Professional staff are classified into four professional areas, in addition to management. Each professional area is associated with a different level of professional knowledge, skills and competences.
See the Information on professional areas (qualifications required, responsibilities and autonomy, remuneration and careers development).
Employment contracts may be permanent or fixed term.
Permanent
As a general rule, the University hires its professional staff with permanent employment contracts (open-ended contracts).
Fixed term
The University may offer fixed term employment contracts in the cases provided for by legislation and specified by the University regulations governing them. These contracts can last up to 3 years. Both fixed-term and permanent employees receive the same salary, with a few exceptions provided for by the national collective bargaining agreement (CCNL) and by the applicable regulations.

Remote working
In order to support work-life balance, subject to agreement with your office manager, you may choose between three forms of remote working:
- teleworking with time constraints: you may carry out your work at your home address and at up to three other locations within Italy, subject to time constraints and in compliance with the resulting attendance requirements under working time regulations. Remote working days are calculated on a monthly basis.
For days worked remotely, the same rules as on-site work apply, both in terms of clocking in/out and meal voucher entitlement, where provided under the individual’s daily working schedule. - agile working : you may carry out your work remotely by organising activities by phases, cycles and objectives, without specific constraints on working hours or location. Agile working may be carried out anywhere in Italy or abroad, at your assigned workplace, at satellite centres (subject to availability), or at another University facility where required for work-related needs.
You are required to work on site for more than 50% of the working days in the relevant two-month period. - decentralised working at satellite centres: you may carry out your work remotely at one of the University’s host satellite centres. Decentralised working at satellite centres may be carried out for up to four days per week, including for consecutive periods.
For further information, please consult the Regulations governing remote working arrangements (in Italian).
