Many crop seeds are treated with active substances to protect them from pathogens, insects and even predation by birds. The materials used to coat the seeds are similar in their characteristics to plastics. When birds prey on such seeds, they ingest active substances with potential negative effects on their biological functions. In addition, fragments of microplastics are released during the sowing process and contaminate the soil, posing a significant environmental problem.

The invention is referred to a coated seed, a method and a machine for coating seeds with a coating film. The invention is based on the use of a coating solution (bio-based and thus made from substances obtained from renewable sources) with repellent action to protect seeds from bird predation

The invention is applied to the agriculture field, specifically in the seed industry.

The advantages are as follows:

  • effective fight against predation by birdlife,
  • repellent action of tanning substances,
  • use of substances and materials obtained from renewable sources,
  • no toxic effects on birdlife.
