Processing waste, such as agri-food waste, or by-products deriving from waste water constitutes a cost due to the processes to dispose of them. Furthermore, the handling and treatment of waste determines a significant environmental impact in terms of the production of greenhouse gases and carbon dioxide. Some modern technologies promote the use of excess biomass, saving it from landfill disposal, in order to make plant waste a source of alternative products. In recent years, interest in techniques that provide electrical energy from organic raw materials available in the environment has increased. One of these is the development of alkaline abiotic fuel cells as a means of treating wastewater efficiently by converting its chemical energy into electricity.

The invention concerns a device made by 3D printing, completely organic and with low construction costs, capable of generating direct electric current through the alkaline oxidation of organic waste matrices from the agri-food industry.

POSSIBLE APPLICATIONS

-       Electricity production systems from agri-food waste

ADVANTAGES

-       Low construction cost

-       Scalable

-       Better performance in terms of energy production

-       Treatment of large volumes of wastewater
