Polyvinylamine (PVAm) is a cationic polyelectrolyte, which has the highest concentration of amino groups among the various polymers composing this category. Because of this intrinsic characteristic, it can be used in different sectors, including the modification of surfaces and / or interfaces. Because of its remarkable reactivity, it is possible to create bonds of the polyvinylamine with numerous supports or polymers of different nature.

The proposed solution aims to provide a mechanically stable material based on PVAm, which can be used as a membrane for CO2 separation, as an additive for cellulose-based products, a protective coating, an adhesive agent, a substrate for biological applications, etc. These, and other results, are obtained by proposing a material based on PVAm with one or more compounds containing graphene and its derivatives, obtained by a treatment that remains stable both in the presence of high humidity and in direct contact with water.

The process for its production is simple, safe and reliable.

Thanks to the presence of numerous amino groups, the polymer lends itself as a possible compound to improve the transport of CO2 through the membranes. Moreover, having many amino groups related to CO2, the compound could be incorporated into membranes for gas separation, facilitating its absorption.

Polyvinylamine is also used in the modification of polymers to render surfaces antibacterial, improving food preservation.
