95097 - Integrative Laboratory Activity

Academic Year 2020/2021

  • Moduli: Giorgio Gallinella (Modulo 1) Patrizia Brigidi (Modulo 2) Anna Maria Porcelli (Modulo 3)
  • Teaching Mode: Traditional lectures (Modulo 1) Traditional lectures (Modulo 2) Traditional lectures (Modulo 3)
  • Campus: Bologna
  • Corso: Second cycle degree programme (LM) in Pharmaceutical Biotechnology (cod. 9068)

Learning outcomes

The student acquires knowledge and skills in the laboratory related to the technologies necessary to: 1) maintain and use cell models to perform different biochemical analysis; 2) the design, development and characterization of vaccines; 3) develop production processes for recombinant proteins, primary and secondary microbial metabolites.

Course contents

The integrative laboratory activity is divided into three laboratory experiments: 1) Prof. Anna Maria Porcelli - use of cell models and analysis of the effects of trehalose on cell proliferation, activation of autophagy, tumorigenic potential; 2) Prof. Giorgio Gallinella - production and characterization of recombinant viral proteins suitable for the development of a VLP vaccine; 3) Prof. Patrizia Brigidi - use of microbiomes in industrial microbiology (metagenomics and bioinformatics approaches for next generation industrial processes).
