Learning outcomes

"The aim of the course is to enable students to: * Be knowledgeable about sociological theories and literature of international migrations in a sociological and historical perspective * Recognize the main pattern and systems of migration from the developing to the developed world * Be familiar with the main migration and integration policies * Be familiar with the main sources of data and information on migrations * Apply a set of tools for analyzing migrations and assimilation processes, and thus interpret them in a direct and continuous interplay with the academic literature."

Teaching methods

The course is organized with a part of lectures taught online on MS TEAMS (30/20 hours) and another taught in presence (30/20 hours). The number of students allowed in class is determined on the basis of class capacity and by the health and safety provisions that deal with the pandemic emergency. In case more students want to attend classes in presence than permitted by the rules, a system of shifts will be organized so to allow students to participate. Regardless of the health-related conditions and the specific organization of the course, students will be able to follow the lessons of the entire course remotely on MS TEAMS.

Teaching tools

The course uses three main teaching tools. First: a list of the readings provided to students. Second: websites pointing to research institutions and statistical sources with which everyone is expected to familiarize. Third: the slides shown during the course and provided on-line on the university teaching material website (“Insegnamenti on line”) after the end of the second lesson of each week.
