Asher Colombo, Ph. D. in Sociology and social research at the University of Trento, is Full Professor in Sociology (SPS/07) at the University of Bologna, where he teaches Sociology (for undergraduates) and Sociology of International Migration (in english, for graduate students). He has worked on international migration, crime & deviance, lgbt people in Italy, death and burial in Europe. His works appeared on European Journal of Criminology, Journal of Modern Italian Studies, Death Studies, Population and Development Review. Now his research focuses on death and disposal in Italy in an historical perspective (from 1800 onwards). He is Principal Investigator for the national project “Death, Dying and Disposal in Italy. Attitudes, Behaviours, Beliefs, Rituals” (Prin 2017-2020), a project connecting research teams in six universities.
He is president of the Research Institute Fondazione di ricerca Istituto Carlo Cattaneo (Bologna). He was director of the Journal "Polis. Studi e ricerche su società e politica in Italia" (2006-2011) and Visiting Scholar of the Universities of California at Berkeley (Usa, CA), Brown (Usa, RI), Windsor (Can, ON).
