Asher Colombo completed his Ph. D. in Sociology and social research at the University of Trento and is now Full Professor at the University of Bologna. He has worked on international migration, crime & deviance, gay and lesbian people in Italy, death and burial in Europe. His works appeared on international journal, as European Journal of Criminology, Journal of Modern Italian Studies, Death Studies, Population and Development Review. Now his research focuses mainly on death and disposal in Italy in an historical perspective (from 1800 onwards) using a wide range of sources. He is the Principal Investigator for the national project “Death, Dying and Disposal in Italy. Attitudes, Behaviours, Beliefs, Rituals” (Prin 2017-2020). The project connects six university research teams in Milano, Bologna, Torino, Napoli, Bergamo, Urbino.
He is member of Istituto Cattaneo (Bologna), Associazione il Mulino. He was director of the Journal "Polis. Studi e ricerche su società e politica in Italia" (2006-2011). Asher Colombo was Visiting Scholar of the Universities of California at Berkeley (Usa, CA), Brown (Usa, RI), Windsor (Can, ON).
