81880 - Structure – Science of Construction

Academic Year 2023/2024

  • Teaching Mode: Traditional lectures
  • Campus: Bologna
  • Corso: Second cycle degree programme (LM) in Advanced Design (cod. 9256)

Learning outcomes

The course aims to deliver the concept that a structure is an object capable of transmitting loads. At the end of the course the student is able to: (1) work with one-dimensional and two-dimensional structural models; (2) develop basic codes for structural analysis and verification; (3) use existing computer codes to obtain approximate solutions of the models treated in class.

Course contents

- Stress flow;

- Reactions for statically determinate structures;

- Internal actions;

- Equilibrium equations;

- Truss structures;

- Arches and cables;

- Stresses and strains;

- Beam bending and corresponding stress state;

- Eccentric loads;

- Shear;

- Stress state;

- Statically indeterminate structures.
