Learning outcomes
The student should know the general aspects of sexual and metabolic endocrinology in reared teleostea, with particular reference to the control methods of productive and reproductive functions; the student will acquire knowledge concerning main contaminants in aquatic environment with a special reference to endocrine disruptors
Course contents
Metabolic endocrinology and stress in teleost. Physiology of the reproductive system in teleostea. Sexuality in teleostea: hermaphroditism and sex inversion. Maturation of male and female gametes. Reproductive endocrinology: hypothalamic-pituitaric control of gonadal development and activity. Steroidogenesis. Climatic and environmental influences on the sexual activity. Inner and outer fertilisation in teleostea. Physiology of the embryonic development, growth and larval weaning. Physiology and ontogenity of digestive tract in larva. Reproductive technologies in most frequently reared teleostea.
