Learning outcomes

At the end of the course, the student is able to understand long and complex oral and written texts with awareness of distinctions of style and genre and is also able to understand specialised texts. The student reaches approximately level C1 in particular in reception skills.

Course contents

The course aims to provide the necessary elements for achieving C1 level language competence according to the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR).


The language skills of written and oral production and comprehension (reading, writing, listening and speaking) will be covered in order to develop in the student a targeted metalinguistic competence of the English language, also applied to the field of technical-specialist discourse (tourism, economic-legal).


At the end of the Advanced English course, the students


(i) will have acquired written and oral linguistic and listening skills at C1 level;


(ii) will have attained a comprehensive understanding of the different dimensions of linguistic variation in English;


iii) will be able to analyse a short text according to the criteria of the Essay text type.

Teaching methods

The teaching approach will be communicative. Lessons will be interactive in a student-centred class in which everyone will be encouraged to actively participate through pair work and group work.


Lessons will be conducted entirely in English.


Attendance of at least 70% of the lessons is required. 

The course includes 20 hours lessons with the CEL Jennifer Monroe. 

Assessment methods

The exam consists of a written part, Use of English, a listening test and an oral discussion on topics discussed during the course.
