Admission requirements
Access requirements for the programme
To attend the second-cycle Master's degree programmein Statistical Science one needs to possess the following knowledge:
MATHEMATICS: introduction to mathematical analysis;matrix algebra
COMPUTER SCIENCE: structure, characteristics andgeneral functioning of a computer; basic principles of programming
PROBABLITY CALCULUS: basic axioms and theorems ofprobability calculus
STATISTICS: elements of descriptive statistics; introductionto statistical inference; linear model, data matrices and derivative matrices; elementsof sampling techniques
To join the Master's degree programme one also needsthe following curricular requirements:
A degree in one of the following classes or to possessanother academic qualification gained abroad and recognised as suitable:
ex D.M. 270:
Class L41
ex. D.M. 509/99:
Class 37
Previous four-year system:
Statistical demographic and social science
Statistical and economic science
Statistical and actuarial science
Three-year university diploma:
Diploma in a statistical field similar in content tothe class L41/37 degrees
Failing possession of a degree in one of the required areas,the admission to the Master's Degree Programme is conditional on the evaluationof the curriculum vitae by a Committee that will also check that the backgroundknowledge is appropriate.
If the Committee judgesthe graduate's knowledge and skills to be acceptable, it will issue a verdictof suitability, granting admission to the personal knowledge assessment.
Assessment of basic knowledge
Besides possessing thecurricular requirements, admission to the second-cycle Master's degreeprogramme is conditional on passing an evaluation of the suitability ofpersonal background knowledge, which will take the following form:
for those possessing the curricular requirements, thebackground knowledge test will be waived if their degree grade was equal to orhigher than the minimum set by the academic programme.
In all the other situations an interview will be heldto ascertain the personal background knowledge.
The Committee appointedby the Degree Programme Board will set dates for interviews, to be published onthe University Portal.
