What the University of Bologna is doing to foster international mobility for PhDs

The framework agreements signed with foreign Universities, covering one or more PhD programme degrees, ensure international scientific collaboration over the medium-long term. They govern general terms for the collaboration between the two contracting parties and envisage the subsequent signature of individual co-tutorship agreements for the benefit of individual PhD students, aimed at awarding a double PhD degree.

Co-tutorship agreements are bilateral agreements between the University of Bologna and a foreign university, benefiting a PhD student. They define the terms of a training and research path that will take place under the supervision of two supervisors and will result, after a single final presentation, in the award of a double PhD degree.

Mobility framework agreements with foreign Universities cover the mobility of PhD students, in order to:

• develop joint research projects;
• create scientific cooperation networks.

The University of Bologna has signed a Consortium Agreement, in cooperation with the partner universities of the Una Europa Alliance, aimed at establishing a joint PhD programme called Una-Her-Doc.

This programme envisages the assignment of extra places to participants in the call for applications who pass the entrance tests, subject to the formal awarding of a MAECI scholarship.
