Conoscenze e abilità da conseguire

Describe the clinical manifestations, etiology, epidemiology, natural history, diagnosis, staging and management of the major diseases of the genitourinary system, with emphasis on those most commonly encountered in the clinical practice. Identify the major diagnostic and therapeutic options for each encountered clinical scenario, and discuss their benefits and limitations. Implement decision-making algorithms for a correct differential diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment choice. Present and critically analyze clinical cases, discuss the differential diagnosis, formulate appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic strategies for each case (Problem-Based Learning).

Contenuti

At the end of the course the student will be able to implement the theoretical and practical knowledge of urological cancers, which have a very high social and epidemiological impact (urological cancers are the most frequent tumors and account for up to 40% of all cancers in humans)

Most innovative minimally-invasive approaches will be detailed

  • bladder cancer (superficial and muscle-invasive, urinary diversions)

  • Upper urinary tract neoplasm

  • main urological syndromes
  • urinary lithiasis
  • erectile disfunction
  • varicocele, scrotum diseases
  • male infertility
  • robotic surgery and laser surgery

Metodi didattici

Frontal lessons and attendance in the ward, in traditional and endoscopic operating theatre and robotic operating theatre.

oral exam

The purpose of the oral exam is to verify the student's ability to apply his or her knowledge and to make the necessary logical-deductive connections.

for the definition of the final grade:

  • knowledge of a very limited number of topics covered in the course and analytical skills that emerge only with the help of the teacher, using a correct terminology → 18-19;
  • knowledge of a limited number of topics covered in the course and ability to autonomous analysis, using a correct terminology → 20-24;
  • knowledge of a large number of topics covered in the course, ability to make independent critical analysis, using a specific terminology → 25-29;
  • exhaustive preparation on the topics covered in the course, ability to make autonomous critical analysis and connection, using a specific terminology,  ability to deepen the topics → 30-30 with honors.
