Conoscenze e abilità da conseguire

The course is an extension and intensification of Mechanics of Solids and Structures. The goal of the course is to advance the understanding of structural behavior and enhance the ability to apply classical structural analysis methods to civil engineering systems. The advanced methods for the analysis of structures will be applied to some structural examples which will be developed by the students.

Contenuti

I. Overview of classical methods for structural analysis.

II. Elastic analysis (linear)
Structural matrix analysis (computer based simulations)

III. Plastic analysis
Limit analysis

IV. Buckling analysis
Elastic stability, buckling loads

Metodi didattici

The course content will be entirely covered by the lectures. The course includes some laboratory sessions, which will cover the practical aspects of the lectures. The instructors will tutor the students.

Modalità di verifica e valutazione dell'apprendimento

A midterm (written) and afinal (written and oral) examination are planned, based on questions intended to assess the knowledge and understanding of the topics covered by the course.

At least two homework assignments are given during the term.

Strumenti a supporto della didattica

The teaching tools are overhead projector, projector and PC.

The course includes some laboratory sessions at the Laboratory of Computational Mechanics ( www.dicam.unibo.it ).
