Learning outcomes
At the end of the course, the student has knowledge regarding methods of data collection, according to a nursing model, in order to identify patient's clinical nursing problems. These problems can be managed by nurses or in team.
Course contents
The student will be able to carry out the NURSING ASSESSMENT according to the GORDON MODEL.
In particular, the student will be able to:
• Define the aims and characteristics of the nursing process;
• Describe the six steps of the nursing process;
• Describe the meaning of critical thinking;
• Define the assessment step in the nursing process;
• Discuss the purpose of assessment in nursing practice and identify the different types of assessment;
• Describe the process and methods of data collection;
• Explain the rationale for data validation;
• Collect subjective data: the interview;
• Collect objective data: the physical examination;
• Fill in the evaluation scales;
• Carry out the overall assessment of the state of health;
• Describe the diagnostic step of the nursing process.

The purpose of the test is to verify the student's ability to apply the knowledge acquired during the course and to carry out the correct logical-deductive reasoning inherent to the nursing assessment.
